All.Over.The.Place.

Do you ever feel like you're all over the place?

You know, like you've got too many irons in the fire and you're not sure which one to pull out or leave in?

Or you feel like there's not enough time in the day to do all the things you want to do?

I recently felt that way about what I like to do in my spare time.

For example, I have several hobbies that I really enjoy...

reading

cross-stitching

crocheting

photography
,

scrapbooking
stamping
sewing

gardening
refinishing/repurposing 'stuff'

And then there are the hobbies I would like to learn...

knitting,
playing the violin
becoming a more advanced seamstress

I think you get the idea.  I enjoy being crafty and creative.

While there is nothing wrong with any of those hobbies, it's the sheer number of hobbies and the amount of supplies needed for each that began to overwhelm me and was taking up too much room in the house.  Room we didn't have.

When it looked as though we would be living in a 5th wheel for a while I decided it was time for me to get focused.

Focused on hobbies that would serve a double duty purpose... enjoyment for me while making it and is a usable/functional end product.

I decided that although scrapbooking and stamping were both hobbies I enjoyed doing they consumed a lot of time and space needed to store all the necessary supplies.  I packed up three large boxes of paper, stamps, ink, etc. and sent them with my sister up to New York where three beautiful little girls are having a blast making cards for other people.

I will not be refinishing or repurposing anything while on the road nor will I be doing any gardening.

With limited storage space, I will be focusing mainly on crocheting, photography and sewing with a bit of reading in the evenings.

Even though I still have quite a few hobbies I feel like I'm less all.over.the.place and I now have a purpose to my hobbies and crafts.

It feels good.

Do you have any hobbies?

Are you like me and enjoy too many hobbies but don't have the time nor space for them?

Till next time,

thankfully mine don't take up too much room (photo albums, drawing table)

Photography , Astronomy , reading , creating on the computer, blogging, Gardening , woodworking and soon sewing again . Those are both Papa and my hobbies . I am retired , so for me I have all kinds of time but Papa still works out of the home and doesn't get much time to do it all . I do hope you find space and time for your hobbies ! Have a good day !

I often feel overwhelmed with things I love to do; many of the same ones you mentioned. As I've aged it seems as though there are less hours in the day somehow. Though I know that's not true. It's a great idea that you sent your scrapbooking stuff to family members that are exploring their creative side.

Sounds like you really thought out your decision and how fun that the girls are enjoying the paper crafts you sent them! My favorite hobbies have always paid for themselves, and when lucky more so-enjoy:@)

I think most creative people feel scattered from time to time. Better to feel scattered than bored. It is nice to be able to focus though. I enjoy most of the things you listed. I recently started working with wool and enjoy it, both wool appliqué and rug hooking.

What a wonderful post.
Yes! I feel like I am all over the place-
with hobbies but also with blogging.

When you described packing your card and scapbooking supplies I thought that we all do things in certain seasons of like.

And that is OK.
Enjoyed visiting,

I loved this! So glad you are concious of your hobbies -- mine include Zumba, chatting w/ friends, and other non-tangible activities that don't need storage (except for all my workout wear... lol) -- I love reading your blog because it gives me great new perspectives...
