A Product That Really Works

I'm not usually one to promote a product but I have to tell you about Shout's ColorCatcher sheets found in the laundry isle because it actually works!

I like to wash my 100% cotton fabric before I sew with them because they tend to shrink.  (Lesson learned the hard way on a welder's cap I made for CountryBoy that shrunk, oops!)  I also like to wash bright colors or extra dark colors because of the bleed factor if used in a quilt.

Now that my washing machine in the fifth wheel does not work I'm not able to wash the fabric individually as I have in the past. And, being cheap frugal, I did not want to pay $1.50 to wash one or two pieces of like-colored fabrics and then $1.00 to dry them.

So, I'm left with throwing the fabrics in with a load of like-colors but I was concerned about the fabric bleeding all over our clothes.  Especially reds.

The owner of my formerly local quilt shop told me about these color catcher sheets.

I threw all this fabric in with my regular wash...

Reds, blacks, browns, blues, orange all thrown in with like colored clothes.

I put the fabric in the washer first then placed one color sheet on top of the fabric then put the rest of the laundry in the machine.

And crossed my fingers!

The reds really made me nervous, yikes! I just knew we would be wearing pink tie-dyed clothes.

But, lo and behold, when the wash cycle was finished and I was pulling the laundry out I did not find one piece of clothing with pink on it.  Whew!

Instead, all the color bleed was on the color catcher sheet...

The white sheet is what gets thrown in the wash.  The discolored sheet?  That's what came out of the load that had the reds, orange, browns and dark blues.

Amazing!

Don't ask me how it works but it does.

I am sold on this product and am, now, not afraid to wash my fabric in with a regular load of wash.  A product that actually works!

I'm pretty sure this product could be used even with that new bright colored shirt or blouse you just bought.

So, there ya have it... a product that actually works, woohoo!

And, no, I have not been compensated in any way for this review, dadgummit. I just wanted to share this tidbit of good stuff with you.

Till next time folks!

I've often wondered if these worked - now I know! And I've never prewashed my fabrics. I know they say to, but for quilting and for making bags, the shrink factor isn't really an issue - when quilts shrink, it just makes the quilting look pretty. But I really never considered the run factor. The lady in my local quilt shop said that the dyes used in quilters cotton these days don't bleed like the old days - guess she's not exactly correct judging by your color sheet! :)
