Hamlin Beach State Park and Charlotte-Genesee Lighthouse

One day my brother was taking us to Walmart.  I needed some yarn and my sister-in-law needed a few miscellaneous items.  We didn't bother putting our long johns on or layering up because we were just going from the car to the store and vice-versa.

Well, we ended up here... Hamlin Beach State Park in Hamlin, NY.  It's a really nice park that offers swimming in the summer, hiking and biking trails, camping, even snowmobile  and cross-country skiing trails.  My brother parked in the parking lot which was quite a ways from the shore and from there this Florida girl thought 'what pretty white, sandy beaches'!  Upon walking down to the shore, it wasn't white sand, it was snow!  My sister-in-law and I walked around for only a few minutes before we couldn't take the cold, biting wind any more.  Meanwhile, my brother is sitting in the warm, toasty car grinning from ear to ear at us as we freeze!  Remember, we weren't layered up for sightseeing... we were going to Walmart!

My great-nephew proposed to his girlfriend at this beach.  And, she said Yes!  How romantic!  They are going to have their reception in one of the beautiful, enclosed pavilions here.

I wished it wasn't so cold because I would've liked to have been able to spend a few more minutes taking some photos but it was too unbearable.

From there we drove to the Charlotte-Genesee Lighthouse in Rochester.

The land that this lighthouse sits on is part of our families history.  In 1821, 3 1/3 acres of the family property was sold to the U.S. Government for $400.00.  For more info click HERE.

It was built on a hill west of the Genesee River and south of Lake Ontario.

This swing bridge is no longer used and there is talk of tearing it down.  I thought I would get a picture for history's sake.  (There were also a bunch of ducks in the water at the boat ramp!)

Here are a couple of views of the city of Rochester...

The day was slipping away from us and before we knew it we had to head home to get ready for church that night.  Needless to say, there was no stop at Walmart.  I think my brother planned it that way, hahaha!  My sister-in-law and I went the next day and left my brother at home, heehee!  Of course, after he saw what all we bought he was wishing he would have gone!  We also got in the habit of double-checking with him about the day's itinerary before leaving the house so we would know how to dress!

For those of you who voted for my friend's son, a HUGE thank you!  At this time, he is still in second place.  The voting ends at 12:00 MST so there is still a bit of time left to vote and get your friends to vote.

Till next time,

Wow, i love it when in just a few minutes there is already some areas for yourselves like this. The last two photos i love the most, because they show some privacy where you are, and where the commercial district is just nearby. It would even be a good area for some picnics.

Whenever my husband says we are going somewhere, I usually dress for the North Pole, because I never know where we are going to end up. :)

Gorgeous lighthouse! So glad it was restored. :)
