Viva Las Vegas!

CountryBoy actually had the entire weekend off (he normally works six days a week) so we headed about an hour north to Henderson, a town outside of Las Vegas, to do some shopping at Whole Foods.

What a great store!  We wandered around the store for over an hour looking at all the whole foods and healthy options for eating.

We managed to get everything on our list except for coconut aminos in which they were out of.  I was surprised they were out of it because I had never heard of it before but apparently I'm the only one who's been in the dark!  It's used as a substitute for soy sauce which has wheat in it.

I'll share more about what was on our list when I finally write the post about our diet.  (I'm giving it some time so that I can post about the physical changes we've encountered since changing our diet.  And yes, there have already been some in a weeks time!)

Meanwhile, CountryBoy wanted to take me to Las Vegas since we were so close and a friend of mine wanted a t-shirt from the Las Vegas Hard Rock.

I've never had a desire to go to Las Vegas.  It's not my thing.  Crowds, cityscapes, gambling, etc. but since we were so close I might as well have a look-see to see what all they hype is about and get the shirt for my friend.

New York skyline taken from truck on our way to the parking garage...

mmmmm, m&ms!

The view from the parking garage...

I believe the building below the MGM Grand is a private residence.  Here is the entrance to it...

After purchasing the requested t-shirt, we decided to walk along The Strip.

Strange looking buildings for sure, and yes, these buildings are actually leaning!

Probably the easiest way to get around the strip, the Aria Express (which we did not do!)...

Shot taken from one of the many skywalks along the strip...

I just loved this Tuscan inspired wall...

Jumping water...

We went inside several of the large hotels and casinos to see if they were as glamorous as depicted on TV.  We were disappointed.  They all looked the same.

Although we were impressed with this one, The Luxor...

It's a good thing, too, because we walked what seemed to be thirty thousand miles to get to it!

CountryBoy wanted to check this one out sooooo bad but I was pooping out.  He said we didn't have to go see it but I knew he really wanted to.  He had already mentioned it several times since we drove by it on our way to the parking garage.

Needless to say, I trudged on for his sake.

Can you see my CountryBoy in the above photo?  He looks like an ant compared to the building!

Inside The Luxor...

Pretty cool!  I wonder what the rooms are like.

They offered several exhibits that would have been nice to see if we had time...

as well as Bodies, The Exhibition, which showcases real full-bodies and organs and provides a detailed, three-dimensional vision of the human form rarely seen outside of an anatomy lab or a morgue.

Maybe another time if I can bring myself to go back to Vegas!

If you're planning on touring The Strip by foot, be prepared to walk (a lot!) and wear comfy shoes.

I thought this was cute and reminded me of something my Pastor back home would like!

There is no easy way to get from one place to the next especially if you want to cross the street.  They definitely had the safety of visitors in mind when they planned the city.  There is no foot traffic allowed on the streets.  You must find access to a skywalk in order to get across the street and sometimes finding access to one is not clearly marked sometimes meaning a few extra steps to get to where you want to go.

Also, many of the escalators up and down the skywalks were not working so you had to hoof it up the steps.    I was pooping out but was more concerned about CountryBoy exerting himself with his heart condition.

I also did not care for all the people handing you 'stuff' or trying to get you to see a show or give you a free night in their hotel.  And the crowds, ugh.  I'm definitely not a city girl anymore!

Eventually, we found our way back to the parking garage and we drove the rest of the way down the strip so the next shots are from the truck.

A little bit of Italy...

A little bit of Paris...

We really enjoyed driving through downtown Las Vegas and seeing all the old hotel signs...

That was our trip to Las Vegas.  Overall, it was an enjoyable day even though my legs and feet were upset with me!

CountryBoy, with his serious heart condition, held up much better than me.  In fact, not once did he have any chest pain nor shortness of breath, woohoo!  I am attributing that to the many prayers being lifted up for him and to the diet.  (One of the physical changes I mentioned previously.)

I can now say that I've been to Vegas (not that I really had any desire to say that in the first place, hahaha)!  I've seen it at night several times when flying in and out of Vegas.  Definitely lots of lights.  Kinda pretty, but I can't help but think of all the electricity that those lights are using up.  Sorry, that's just the conservationist in me sneaking out.  You also can't see the stars in the sky with all the lights.  That's the country girl coming out in me!

Till next time,

Vegas is a place that I've never had a desire to visit either, but a friend of mine goes on business frequently and says there really is a lot to see and do there. Maybe one day. It is amazing how they've managed to replicate other countries and cities.

Can't wait to hear about the new diet and the changes that are taking place. It all sounds very good and encouraging!

Excellent pics! I love Whole Foods but I do wish they weren't so expensive. We don't have one where we live - the closest one is 2 hours away.
