Hyperactivity at the Homestead

OK, maybe not hyper, but there was definitely a lot of activity around the ol' homestead yesterday.

What started out to be a rainy day in the early morning hours...

turned into a lovely afternoon.

I filled both hummingbird feeders with fresh sugar water that morning after the rain had stopped.  Which, by the way, we had four lovely days in a row of rain.  My flower and veggie gardens are so happy!

This particular feeder is the one I can see out my office window.  I also have a couple of chairs maybe about four feet from this feeder.  I can sit in the chair and it doesn't bother the hummers one bit that I'm so close.

These were all taken while I was sitting in the chair by the feeder.

I also gave the squirrels some food in their feeder.

Only one squirrel is allowed on the feeder at one time.  I don't know who came up with that rule but they all stick by it.  That is, until somebody decides that the one on the feeder has been there long enough!  As they're chasing each other, another squirrel jumps onto the feeder and takes over.  It's quite entertaining to watch.

You lookin' at me?

I also added bird seed to the bird feeders.

I sat in the chair on the patio for maybe thirty minutes and was able to capture all this activity.  It was wonderful!

There's still a lot of activity today but it is extremely windy and cool outside.  I'm opting to stay on the front porch!

Till next time,

Hillbilly Compost Bin

It's been awhile since I've updated y'all on our Master bath situation.  Well, there's a reason for that.... because it's still the same!  If you missed my post on the beginning of the Master bath saga you can catch up HERE.  Thankfully, we've had no company since we're still showering in the guest bath!  I guess I need to start coming up with some sort of plan to get that room finished.  It needs so much more done to it than just replacing the tub that I know my champagne taste on a beer budget is going to put a damper on getting it done because it's just not in the budget right now.  I think I just came up with a plan (I love a good plan!)...  I'm going to determine what all needs to be done in there and prioritize them.  Then, we'll do one thing at a time, as we can afford it, and some day it will be done!  I'll keep you posted!

Meanwhile, Country Boy decided to put the old tub to good use...

Our hillbilly compost bin!  It's working pretty good!  It's about half full now with lot's of good dirt in there!

We're having a lovely day of rain!

I had planned to do laundry today but it's not a good day for hanging the clothes out on the line.  There's always tomorrow!

Speaking of hanging the clothes out.... I have heard that by doing so, you can cut your electric bill in half!  I'm not sure how accurate that statement is but I have to tell you that our electric bill is considerably less than it was this time last year and the only thing that has changed is using the dryer less (I still dry my towels!  I like them soft!)!  That makes me a happy girl!  And, I actually enjoy the process of hanging the clothes on the line... there's something calming about it and I feel good about conserving energy!

Till next time,
