I first saw this soap dispenser on Julia's blog Blissfully Content and I knew I had to have some of those at all my sinks. They fit the style and decor of my house perfectly!
My soap dispenser is a tad different than this one so I won't be going into detail on how I made it because it was a lot more time consuming than Julia's. So, if you're interested in making one (or several!) of these than stop by Julia's blog where she gives a great tutorial on how to make one.
I wanted to use old canning jars, of which, I had none. My sister was heading to a huge flea market one day so she looked around for some. The price of old Mason or Ball canning jars was RIDICULOUS! I told her not to worry about it as I didn't want to spend much on this project. (I should've looked online like the tutorial suggested!) She called back a bit later and said she'd found some Crown canning jars that were made in Canada and were much cheaper than the Ball or Mason jars. Sounded good to me so she picked up several of them.
The difference with these jars is that the lid was glass with a metal band that secured it to the jar. The glass was about 1/4" thick. I wanted to use the jar as is so I decided to try drilling a hole through the glass. It took some doing using a Dremel diamond bit and a carbide drill bit but I finally got a hole big enough for the pump.
Here's how it turned out...
The glass is actually clear with blue soap in it.
I love how it turned out! It has that country flair going on!
I put this one by my kitchen sink. I need to make two more but I'm not sure if I'm going to use the glass lid again or try to find some tin lids that will fit.
But, for now, I'm enjoying the country flair of this one and it looks right at home in my kitchen!
