Mondays.

Love the foot up in the air!

When I was a working girl,

or should I say a working outside the home girl,

I didn't like Mondays.

Getting up in the morning,

going to a job that I didn't much care for, blech...

I'm sure y'all know the drill.

Now that I'm a full-time housewife/farm girl,

and my job is that of taking care of my husband, home and farm

I don't mind Mondays at all.

In fact,

I rather enjoy Mondays.

It's a day of laundry and cleaning.

Cleaning both inside the house and out.

By out, I mean the front porch, the chicken coop, duck pool, etc.

I enjoy doing these things as it "restores order to my home"

(to quote Jayme of Tales from the Coop Keeper)

and it's very rewarding work.

My paycheck?

watching others enjoy the fruits of my labor (make sure your sound is on!)....

Totally worth the effort!

The ducks were so excited about their clean pool that they didn't even wait for it to be finished filling up!  They kept peeking over the edge and watching it fill up.  As soon as it was three fourths full they were in it splashing, diving, floating, swimming, wings flapping, etc.  I just had to capture some of it on video to show you how excited they were.  (Note to self:  I need a larger SD card for my camera to hopefully catch some longer clips at one time rather than several small clips.)

Did you hear the hen in the background?

Yup, she just laid an egg and is letting everyone know how proud she is!

Speaking of eggs...  11 farm fresh eggs today.

Did We Get Ducks or Pigs?

The ducks are a month old now and are quickly catching up to the chickens...

They're growing like weeds and eating like pigs!  They are the fastest growing animals I've ever seen.

They love their 'pond' yet I've not been able to get a photo of them swimming in it.  I did catch them taking an early morning dip this morning when I went out to feed everyone.  When they heard the back door open they all scampered out of the pond as if they got caught doing something wrong!  Meanwhile, the chickens were sleeping in.  Lazy chickens!

I think they're camera shy.  One day, I'm going to sit out there and just wait for them to go swimming so I can get some pictures.

The ducks and chickens get along just fine.

The chickens are about three months old now.  They're still establishing the pecking order and the rooster is perfecting his crow.

The first time he tried to crow, he was standing on a roost outside and just about fell off.  Wings were flapping and he was bobbing forward and backward to keep his balance.  He managed to stay on the roost but it took him quite a while to get the hang of crowing while keeping his balance!  Also, the first time he let out a good crow, every single hen hightailed it back into the coop...  it was the funniest thing I ever saw!

Such pretty girls (and you too Mr. Rooster!).  In a couple of months they should start laying eggs.  I can hardly wait!
