This or That Thursday

This morning I thought I would edit a few photos and do a quick post before heading outside to putz around.  When my editing program became so sluggish that I couldn't get from one program to another without it freezing up, I knew it was time...  Time to move all my photos onto my external drive; I could not procrastinate on this project any longer *laugh*.  They were not categorized nor were the icky ones deleted.  I will now have to do that from my external drive.  Oh well, at least I'm back in business... woohoo!

I've had a few requests for more chick photos and who am I to deny my readers of seeing my chicks that are so adorable!

I believe they are starting to establish the pecking order already.  Occasionally, I'll see a couple of chicks stand up straight and go chest to chest with each other as in the above photo.  It's so cute!  I haven't been able to determine who ends being the alpha chick yet from these little sparring matches though.

Soooo sleepy!
The chicks are about a week old in these photos.

Have you noticed the growth of their wings?  They have discovered that they have wings and they will take off at a run across the coop with their wings flapping.

The coop got a good cleaning today.  I removed the poop-filled hay and put a bunch of fresh hay down.  Thank goodness for face masks!  The hay dust didn't bother me at all.  The mask... now that's another story!  I couldn't stand them when I had to wear them while working as an EMT and I still don't like them but it's better than the alternative *smile*!

Country Boy and I worked outside today doing a bit more clearing of the vines that have taken over our woods.  It's coming along slowly but surely.  We have a loooooonnngg way to go...

The other night I came across a Pumpkin Bread recipe from Mrs. Southern Bride.  I love anything pumpkin and since I had an opened can of pumpkin that I needed to use before it spoiled I decided to make the bread that evening since I had all the ingredients on hand.  I wish y'all could have smelled my house!  Mmmm!  Country Boy came home from work and was thrilled when he walked through the door (you know the ol' saying 'the way to a man's heart...' heehee)!  Of course, he had to have some right away ...

I had started a campfire earlier in the evening so when Country Boy wanted to try the bread, I made some coffee, cut some slices of pumpkin bread, slathered some butter on them and out we went to the campfire. It was delish!  We both absolutely loved this bread and it was so simple to make!  Here's the recipe:

Pumpkin Bread

1 1/2 Cups All Purpose Flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/3 cup butter (melted)
1 can of solid pack pumpkin (approx. 15 oz.)
2 large eggs
2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla

Heat oven to 350. Combine dry ingredients and set aside. Mix egg, pumpkin, butter, sugar. Add remaining ingredients. Mix until well corporated. Pour into greased loaf pan.  Cook 35-50 minutes or bread is set in the middle.

I had a 30 oz. can of pumpkin so I doubled the recipe for two loaves.  I'm glad I did!

Such cute little chicks! I can tell they're growing. I love the way the yellow one is looking at the other one in the first photo. The pumpkin bread looks really good. We are making jack o lanterns so I need to figure out how scooped out pumpkin compares to canned pumpkin. I've only baked with the canned pumpkin in the past but maybe I'll try something new!
