Memorial Day Weekend

I hope y'all had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend and I hope that you took some time to remember those who gave their all for the freedom that we have today.

CountryBoy and I had a lovely weekend.

We spent some time indoors, relaxing, watching movies, crocheting, and reading (OK, so I was the only one crocheting and reading, wink!).

We spent some time outdoors as well.  We went back to Bryan Beach so I could look for more sea glass while CountryBoy did some fishing but it was packed.  And I.mean.packed. There was a solid line of cars near the water and several cars near the dunes. Many folks looked as though they were spending the entire weekend there with tents and grills set up. But not everybody could drive along the beach. Parts of the 'road' between the parked cars was extremely soft.  We saw several vehicles getting assistance after getting stuck and several cars simply turned around not wanting to take the chance.  Us?  We went for it but was sure thankful for the 4WD on our truck! We were able to drive through the soft sand without a problem.  Whew!

We drove down the beach about a mile or so before we found a spot to park.  There was still a lot of seaweed on the beach and the tide was up all the way to the seaweed.  So, we let LizzieBelle walk around for a bit and enjoy her first time on a beach then we decided to head to the Jetty so CountryBoy could fish.

The Jetty was crowded as well.  We found a spot not even halfway down the Jetty and set up our chairs.  I did some reading while LizzieBelle took in her surroundings and attracted a lot of attention from passers-by.

Here she is sitting on my lap.  I have to say that I am so impressed with how far she has come when it comes to strangers and children.  She used to shy away from anyone approaching her and if a child was too aggressive or noisy she would show her teeth and sometimes snap at them.  Now, she is tolerating them without showing her teeth and if the child lets her sniff them then she'll let them pet her.  She's still not too sure about a bunch of kids all at once (she must get that from her Mama cuz neither am I, haha!).

Now that we live so close to the ocean CountryBoy and I are always wanting seafood when we go out to eat.  We really missed seafood when we were living in Nevada and Arizona so we have been in search of yummy seafood restaurants close by to satisfy our seafood cravings!

When we first arrived in Texas we found a good one in the town where we do our shopping which isn't very far away but, we were looking for something a little closer to home in case we wanted to go out to eat on a work night.

So, Friday after work, we decided to check out some of the restaurants nearby in hopes that they had some seafood.

We went about four miles down the road to Surfside Beach where we had seen several restaurants choices when we were previously scouting out the area.

We stopped at one named Sharkeys thinking that with a name like that there must be lots of seafood on the menu.  Nope.  It was a bar and grill with the items on the menu being burgers and fried foods. Bleh.  We ate a burger there anyway but now we know they don't serve seafood.  Disappointed but full, we left with an even stronger craving for seafood.

After supper we went down to the beach.  It was cloudy and overcast as the sun was beginning to set behind us.

On the way home there was a beautiful sunset over the job where CountryBoy is working.

See the two cranes to the right of the sunset?  That's where he's working setting and aligning the stacks.  And below the sunset, that's the intracoastal waterway.

Saturday evening we finally got our seafood.  We drove to the first little seafood restaurant we found shortly after arriving here.  I had grilled scallops, a side salad, dirty rice and steamed veggies.  CountryBoy had a side salad, frog legs, steamed oysters and grilled shrimp and we both had some southern sweet tea, woot!  So yummy and very reasonable!

On Memorial Day we relaxed some more, moved the cargo trailer over a bit so that it was not so close to the fifth wheel, watched movies, did some reading and crocheting (me again not CountryBoy!) and then CountryBoy grilled pork chops, corn on the cob, and squash while I made a Deviled Egg Macaroni Salad, sliced some tomatoes and got the applesauce out. Later on we pigged out on ice cream sundaes with hot fudge and lots of toppings - definitely a rare treat for us!

How was your Memorial Day weekend?

Till next time folks!
